Big Oil Can Be Beat

Posted by Ethan on Wednesday, October 20, 2010, In : Climate Bill
Hey Neergs--

Yesterday we learned how big industry won the "freedom of speech" right to spend crazy money on ad campaigns to sway public opinion and "buy" the votes of elected officials. We also learned that an informed and well organized advocacy effort can overcome deception. While it may be too early to celebrate a win, Californians are to be congratulated for rallying advocacy groups to defeat Proposition 23.
If you'll remember, big oil companies, Tesoro and Valero, put Proposition 23 on ...

Hey Neergs!
I was inspired by this video (below) to bring up the subject of clean energy legislation again. If you've been following us, you know that we have created a Take Action page on to give kids an opportunity to voice their disappointment about the inaction of our congress.  It's completely unacceptable and now our country is not only in danger of  not moving forward on clean energy legislation, but taking back-steps.  Please read "What's at Stake in your Governo...

Death of the Climate Bill

Posted by Ethan on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, In : Climate Bill
Hey Neergs-

Listen, I know this is complicated stuff, this proposed climate bill. In a nutshell, the bill would have placed limits on carbon emissions produced from power plants, refineries and factories that contribute to global warming. The limit would put a price on pollution making it expense for companies to do business as usual, meaning they'd pay for their carbon-producing ways! It would force these companies to invest in clean energy alternatives.  Unfortunately, IMHO, our Senate, both...

Johann Hari: Must Read in Huffington Post Today

Posted by Ethan on Friday, June 25, 2010, In : BP Oil Spill
Hey Neergs--

Please check out  Johann Hari's article in the Huffington Post today. He presents some scary facts from NASA.  We all know oil is spilling into our ocean in the Gulf, and is causing widespread devastation to the people and wildlife that live there.  But did you know that oil spills also release lots of gases into the atmosphere when they burn? Johann says these gases add to global warming. He reports NASA's findings that we could have the hottest year ever known.  Worse yet, his a...

President Obama's Oval Office Address

Posted by Ethan on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, In : BP Oil Spill
Greeting Neergs--

If you weren't allowed to stay up late for President Obama's address from the Oval Office, you can find it here on our BP Video of the Day page. President Obama spoke about the continuing flow of oil from the well and that it is likely to continue, affecting wildlife and those who make their living from the Gulf. He speaks to our governments failures to better regulate the industry and commits to holding BP accountability. I was happy to hear him rally for a new clean energy ...

How do you feel about BP Oil Spill?

Posted by Ethan on Monday, May 17, 2010, In : BP Oil Spill
 Hi Neergs--

I just uploaded some new videos about the oil spill in the Gulf.  The 60 minutes video is a must see! How do you feel about the finger pointing?  Who do you think is at fault?

What do you think we can do right now?  Should we boycott BP oil and other products made from petroleum?  Should we start a petition to ban off-shore drilling?  Should we start a petition to demand a clean energy act?  Start getting your ideas together.  Stay tuned for a Green Kids Rock poll coming your way...

Oil Spill in Gulf

Posted by Ethan on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, In : BP Oil Spill

By now I'm sure most of you know about this oil spill that is reportedly leaking almost 200,000 gallons of crude oil daily into the Gulf of Mexico. BP stilll hasn't figured out how to stop it.  There's a really interesting (and short!) story about three plans to stop the oil flow at

One plan is to use remote controlled submarines to shut off the valves underwater. This is kind of like robotic surgery 5000 feet under water int the dark!  Another more promising plan is to put a
