Climate Scientists not going down without a fight!

Posted by Ethan on Monday, November 8, 2010, In : Breaking News
Hey Neergs--

Enough is enough! I was so excited to read the headline on the Huffington Post today, "Scientists Fight Back."  And I'm not talking about a headline on the green section--this is on the front page!!  Two separate initiatives are being organized to combat the newly elected Republican officials proud to be labeled "climate deniers."  One initiative involves the American Geophysical Union; they are planning to announce that 700 climate scientists will unite in speaking out on man-mad...

Amiiko--Must see Eco-Calculators

Posted by Ethan on Thursday, October 28, 2010, In : Buy and Use Green!

Hey Neergs—

We spend a lot of time here on GKR discussing the issues and advocating for legislation that will make a difference in the United States and the rest of the world.  I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get frustrated trying to make an impression on someone who still denies climate change or is just too busy to care about the environment.  If I was only quicker on my feet, I’d tell them all kinds of statistics to jolt them into awareness and action!  Well, now I don’t h...

Did you know????

Posted by Ethan on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, In : BP Oil Spill
Hi Neergs--

I know this is a short post, but I had to share.  I just read this and was stunned.

Did you know that this BP Oil spill tragedy has killed 11 workers?

Did you know the spill is way worse than the nation's last worst oil disaster, the Exxon Valdez spill? It spilled 11 million gallons into Alaska's Prince William Sound in 1989.

Did you know that the gulf spill has leaked somewhere between 19 million to 43 million gallons so far?

Let's keep our eye on that dome procedure and hope for ...

Want to help the Gulf Coast?

Posted by Ethan on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, In : BP Oil Spill
My Dad received an email from Courtney Taylor of the Environmental Defense Fund today. She said that there are three things we can do right now to provide assistance around the BP Oil Spill. Of course you need Mom, Dad or a guardian to help you with these. If you can't volunteer or donate, don't worry!  Staying engaged and reading up on the latest (see number 2) is really, really helpful.

You can share your knowledge and advocate for this cause. Remember, advocating for a good cause is stand...

Oil Spill in Gulf

Posted by Ethan on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, In : BP Oil Spill

By now I'm sure most of you know about this oil spill that is reportedly leaking almost 200,000 gallons of crude oil daily into the Gulf of Mexico. BP stilll hasn't figured out how to stop it.  There's a really interesting (and short!) story about three plans to stop the oil flow at MSNBC.com

One plan is to use remote controlled submarines to shut off the valves underwater. This is kind of like robotic surgery 5000 feet under water int the dark!  Another more promising plan is to put a
125-t...
